2022 Chardonnay
When we purchased the land in 2013 and started making a plan for our vineyard, growing and producing Gran Cru-style chardonnay was at the top of the list.
Planted on the eastern slopes of the vineyard, chardonnay thrives in the mild growing seasons and naturally elevated acid of Ribbon Ridge. The 2022 Chardonnay features grapes grown on our estate vineyard. All fruit is organically grown, farmed, and managed by our family.
2022 was a challenging year for farming our Chardonnay- as we were hit by a frost in mid-April just at bud-break. All the characteristics of the vineyard aspect that typically create an ideal chardonnay planting- cool mornings, eastern planting - contributed to the stifled recovery of the delicate vines. While the Pinot Noir fruit seemed to recover well during the extended summer and fall, the Chardonnay was not able to recoup as well. Thus, the production of the Chardonnay was limited to just 50 cases. While not the most plentiful harvest, the chardonnay grapes that were harvested were beautiful and dynamic.
This is a knockout chardonnay. It is dry and crisp with citrus and white floral notes on the nose, and lemon, nutmeg, vanilla, and custard on the palate. The finish is delicate and lingers beautifully.
